Case #42

"It is very worrying when you have to stop seeing a counsellor to protect your mental health"

I am not sure if you'd consider this healthcare but I have had a lot of issues at my University with counselling services, thankfully I have now graduated but I found that the services offered to me fell very short when it came to the queer community.

While studying I started to grow more comfortable with my gender expression and started using they/them pronouns, and would describe myself as non-binary. I was already seeing a counsellor prior to this so during a session I told him about my pronouns and rather than accept it, they started asking me what had changed and "why would you want to make your life even more difficult than it already is?"

I honestly couldn't believe it and never went back to see him again. It is very worrying when you have to stop seeing a counsellor to protect your mental health.
